Are you curious about how to live a healthier, more eco-friendly lifestyle?  If the answer is yes, a fabulous, local store to check out that will help you get started is Eco Chic Boutique. Leanne Sucrow, co-owner of Eco Chic Boutique, talks with HPR about her store and her passions.

What Is Eco Chic Boutique?
Eco Chic Boutique is Fargo’s first and only green boutique for baby, mom/dad, home and pets. We carry everything from gift items to everyday staple products.

What is your mission or store’s purpose?
Our goal is to reach out to families and individuals by offering healthier choices for items we use on a day-to-day basis. There are so many toxic chemicals in today’s products and the environment that we want to educate people by helping them remove the toxins out of their homes/businesses with green alternatives.

What types of items do you sell?
Being green is a huge umbrella term. We carry items that are natural, sustainable, eco-friendly, organic and/or locally-made. Everything from cloth diapers to bamboo clothing to spices to yoga supplies to pet beds to men’s underwear. And we cater to what our customers are looking for…meaning, let us know what you are looking for and chances are we are or will bring it in.

What are you passionate about?
As a full-time working mom of a sassy toddler, I know what it means to stay busy. My passion is to help other moms and women implement a healthier alternative or choice to their daily routine. There are so many easy ways to remove chemicals out of the home and some greener choices that help one save money.

How did you come up with the idea for the store?
My business partner, Maria Bosak, and I met over two years ago when I first had my daughter. We were working together on a green remodeling interior design project. Since I just had my daughter, I was very concerned about our health and products I was bringing to my home. As a Shaklee distributor, Maria introduced to me green cleaners and natural supplements. Our friendship grew as we lived in the same neighborhood, had bully dogs and had a common respect for the green way of living. We spent many hours walking in our neighborhood and consumed plenty of coffee whlie discussing the fact that we weren’t the only ones in our community searching for healthier choices and green products outside of cleaners and supplements. Then the brilliant idea of opening a retail store came about. Eco Chic was and is to be a central location and resource for people to find products without toxic chemicals and better choices for their family, home and pets.

What message would you like to share with your customers?
We always tell people not to worry about changing their life/routine overnight to be “green.”  There are many ways to be green and chances are you are already a part of the green movement. There are so many nasty chemicals out there in items we don’t even suspect that we want to discuss the non-toxic options and have conversations with people about removing them out of their life. But don’t feel the need to change everything at once. Just start with one!  Our town has a great recycling program. It’s easy and it’s free!

Do you have any best-selling items? If so, what are they?
We are proud to say that we dish the dirt on cloth diapers and sell loads of cloth diapers to local families. Between saving over $2000/per kid, removing toxic chemicals touching baby’s skin and not contributing to the 10 million tons of disposable diapers in the landfill EVERY day, many families see the value in cloth diapering. As a working mother, I can assure you it’s not that difficult. Trust me, one gets over the fact of placing their hands in a toilet (hey, it’s clean water!).

Do you have a favorite item(s)?
Right now, my current favorite is our line of essential oils. There are many beneficial and well-being reasons for using oils to cleaning products and our body. No need for toxic perfume!

Anything else you’d like to share or mention?
We host many events in our gathering space from Essential Oils 101 to The Poop on Cloth Diapers to jewelry making. So be sure to check out our Facebook page or website for upcoming events! And since we have plenty of unique baby products and household items, we have started to create gift registries for mom and dad to-be’s and newbie couples.
