Engaging Conversation

I was surprised at the responses to last week’s column. Most were talking about trying to understand other viewpoints, but one that was particularly of interest to me came from a very sweet woman who was gently challenging my viewpoint. The challenge wasn’t what was interesting to me - it was the chance to enter into a dialogue with someone who held a different viewpoint. With respect. For if there isn’t respect for both parties, there IS no conversation, only two people yelling at each other. So we’re talking about how we feel, and I’m talking about my intentions and I, for one, am having a good time. That’s what it’s all about, because no two people have the exact same perspectives about anything. I’m always interested in what other people are thinking, because they’re all different sides of the same coin, so to speak. And I DID do my yoga this morning, and I feel great.
