“Refugia Blues” is Shoulders’ fifth album and he’s turning off the amp and taking a step toward the acoustic nature of the traditional southern sound. Blending the macro with the micro, and bringing big ideas down to an intimate level, his sound is a celebration of past music tradition. His croon, his whistle, unmistakable yodel and his musicality are steeped in folk traditions older than human recollection with a punk rock ethos.
