Tricks and treats will run rampant this Halloween and one of the crown jewels of the celebratory “Hallo-week” will be a tastefully spooky costume party held at The Rourke Art Museum. The FMVA is teaming up with the Rourke for a Halloween bash like no other.
Guests are encouraged to costume up for this family friendly event for a chance to win an FMVA and Rourke membership under the eyes of celebrity judges John Lamb of the Fargo Forum and…

It’s been a crazy fall so far. George Clooney got married, Amanda Bynes is back in the tabloids and, most important, Fargo’s very first tattoo convention is coming to the Fargo Civic Center. The two-day event will feature some of the best local artists and a few significant celebrity artists including Corey Miller of “LA Ink” and TV personality and former pro wrestler Brett “Big Schwag” Wagner.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to notice that the Fargo-Moorhead art scene is booming. Thanks to not only the “Downtown Renaissance,” which involved the revitalization of its structures as well as its cultural points, but also the Tri-College community, which has fostered three incredible art departments. The Plains Art Museum will be host to Fargo-Moorhead’s first ever Tri-College faculty…

Kim Bromley dips into numerous cups for inspiration to make art. Whether it be showcased in his Monet-esque “Pond Series” featured in the Spirit Room Gallery, “The Moby Dick Series” exhibited at The Plains Art Museum in 2013 or even his series of billiard balls that he was commissioned to paint for Fargo Billiards and Gastropub. For his latest body of work, Bromley is focusing on a series of portraits, drawing inspiration from pieces created by Rembrandt, Picasso and Chuck…

Last week we explored a bit of the history of Assumption Abbey in Richardton, N.D. We discussed a bit of the history and renovations, and then ended with Abbot Brian Wangler sending me to the Abbey Pottery Studio to meet the Abbey’s resident artist, Brother Llewellyn Kouba.
The studio is located in a space that formerly housed a prep school dormitory. The studio came into being in 1987 with Brother Basil Atwell, OSB as the Abbey’s first potter until he felt the call to be more…

As much as I hate to admit that the passing of Labor Day leads to the passing of summer, I tend to reflect on my own personal highlight reel. I spent the majority of my summer in western North Dakota (in Stark County to be precise) and some of my favorite company was that of the monks at Assumption Abbey in Richardton.
My sweetheart and I decided to check out the abbey one summer day, but opened the door to see the monks at prayer. At the time we thought we would disturb them and made a…

The Rourke Gallery was established June 18, 1960. This year, June 18 marks the 55th annual Midwestern Art Invitational at the Rourke Art Gallery in Moorhead and consequently renders the exhibition one of the longest consecutively running invitationals in the country. Since its inception, The Rourke has been a jewel in the crown of Fargo-Moorhead culture.
“The Rourke Art Gallery was a trailblazing visual arts organization in the community. It’s hard to imagine now, with numerous…
By Josette Ciceronunapologeticallyanxiousme@gmail.com What does it mean to truly live in a community —or should I say, among community? It’s a question I have been wrestling with since I moved to Fargo-Moorhead in February 2022.…
