Downtown scored a new mural from The Greetings Tour, a project that aims to create a mural in the style of a vintage postcard in every U.S. state. The Downtown Neighborhood Association contacted muralist Victor Ving and photographer Lisa Beggs and helped secure the location on the west side of Orange Records at Roberts Street and 1st Avenue North.
The colorful mural depicts local landscapes and symbols (including the Fargo Theatre sign, the Great Northern Railway Depot and the Veterans Memorial Bridge, as viewed from the Red River) within the letters that make up the city’s name. Fargo artist Anna Johnson served as a guest artist and designed the letter A. It includes a colorful Ojibwe floral motif (Johnson is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa) and the animal imagery that appears in much of her work.
This is the first Greetings Tour mural in North Dakota. It was dedicated on Sunday, June 27. More information is available at greetingstour.com/murals/fargo-nd.
