Fargo’s own O’Fosho! is now five.

To celebrate, the jam-fusion band is hosting a show at The Aquarium, where they’ll be recording video and audio to release for a later date.

“I feel like our live show is where we are at right now so I think that’s kind of where we want to showcase where we are, (it’s) definitely the best option for sure,” said Matt Johnson, O’fosho’s vocalist and guitarist.

As an original touring band of five years, O’fosho said it’s immensely grateful of the support it’s gathered over the years, especially from Fargoans. The show on Friday is a way for the guys to come “full circle” and really showcase the progresses they’ve made within the past year or so.

Drummer Dan Olson added, “Being on the road, we’ve been meeting a bunch of bands … and they always want to come to Fargo because we have such a reputation here – Fargo as a music city is great.”

O’fosho’s appreciation of Fargo is one major reason the band will be sticking around and continuing to put on local shows, rather than moving to a bigger city or constantly traveling like a number of other popular original bands do.

The band keeps its shows fresh by consistently teaming up with talented area musicians. At times the collaborations will include creating new music, other times they’ll cover songs by mutually agreed upon artists. Rage Against the Machine, Hall and Oates, Allman Brothers Band, The Wood Brothers and Fleetwood Mac are all groups O’fosho has covered with the help of friends.

“People talk about the short shelf life of musicians (in Fargo),” Olson said. “But I think what a lot of bands now are finding is that we are putting in our time in and there’s definitely a crowd with three colleges around, there’s definitely a scene to be had here.”

Future plans include a new website and record. So far O’fosho has enough material to record two full-length records. Neither Johnson nor Olson revealed information on when a new record is expected to come out.

Johnson said, “We’ve really been making better music that we are very proud of and we have yet to really be able to put that on a platform for people to enjoy rather than just play live. So we figure we might as well put ourselves in that situation but also make (Friday) a celebration of music – local music – friendship.”
