Author of “Boys and Oil: Growing Up Gay in a Fractured Land” Taylor Broby will discuss the important role libraries play in their communities as sanctuaries of acceptance. He will explain both ND House Bill 1205 and Senate Bill 2360, that if passed, ND libraries will be limited, censored, and punished for having books considered deviant in regard to sex and sexuality, and will explain how these bills indirectly target LGBTQ voices.
Brorby recently contributed a guest essay to the New York Times. “Growing up in the closet in North Dakota in the late ’90s and early 2000s, I found sanctuary in libraries that I couldn’t find anywhere else.”
