Grand Forks and Fargo-Moorhead will host pro-democracy rallies on April 19. These gatherings are just the latest in a string of protests against President Trump and his policies that have sprung up across the region in recent weeks, including Friday afternoon gatherings at the downtown Fargo Post Office and the Hands Off! events on April 5. The latter drew thousands to North Dakota and western Minnesota protests and rallies and millions of people nationwide.
A “No Kings” rally will be held at Town Square (1 S. 3rd Street) in downtown Grand Forks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 19. The event celebrates the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution, which began on April 19, 1775. Social media graphics promoting the event advised participants to bring signs emphasizing “no kings.”
A second rally is planned in Fargo-Moorhead on April 19. Members of Red River Indivisible will gather in what’s described as an “informal protest” at 10 a.m. on the Veterans Memorial Bridge between Fargo and Moorhead, Minnesota. It is not officially sponsored by the organization, but members and non-members are welcome.
Demonstrations, protests, rallies, speakers, letter writing campaigns and mutual aid events are being held around the country on April 19. Participants state a variety of goals for this day of action. They include building community, contacting lawmakers, exercising the right to public assembly and free speech and grassroots organization.
