Pro-worker rallies planned for May 1 and May 3 in region

News | April 30th, 2025

By Alicia Underlee Nelson

More than 1,000 pro-worker events are planned for Thursday, May 1 across the country, including rallies in Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks, Minot and Jamestown. East Grand Forks and Bismarck will host protests on Saturday, May 3.

These happenings, which may include rallies, marches, protests, speakers, town halls, pledges and mutual aid campaigns, are part of a national day of action centered around International Workers Day on May 1. Events are planned by local volunteers. They’re part of a growing grassroots coalition of groups organizing against President Trump and his policies.

“Trump and his billionaire profiteers are trying to create a race to the bottom — on wages, on benefits, on dignity itself,” organizers stated on the May Day National Day of Action website. “This May Day we are fighting back. We are demanding a country that puts our families over their fortunes — public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, prosperity over free market politics.”

Non-violence and de-escalation are core principles of the movement. Search for or add events at maydaystrong.org. Happenings in North Dakota and western Minnesota are listed below.
