Pro-worker rallies planned for May 1 and May 3 in region

More than 1,000 pro-worker events are planned for Thursday, May 1 across the country, including rallies in Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks, Minot and Jamestown. East Grand Forks and Bismarck will host protests on Saturday, May 3.

These happenings, which may include rallies, marches, protests, speakers, town halls, pledges and mutual aid campaigns, are part of a national day of action centered around International Workers Day on May 1. Events are planned by local volunteers. They’re part of a growing grassroots coalition of groups organizing against President Trump and his policies.

“Trump and his billionaire profiteers are trying to create a race to the bottom — on wages, on benefits, on dignity itself,” organizers stated on the May Day National Day of Action website. “This May Day we are fighting back. We are demanding a country that puts our families over their fortunes — public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, prosperity over free market politics.”

Fargo-Moorhead

May 1

Veterans Memorial Bridge

5-7 p.m.

A protest is scheduled on the bridge (located on Main Avenue, between Fargo and Moorhead) from 5-6 p.m. Participants will march to Woodlawn Park (400 Woodlawn Park Dr. in Moorhead) for speakers from 6-7 p.m.

Grand Forks

May 1

4:30-5:30 p.m.

Corner of 24th Ave. S and 20th St. near Bringewatt Park

Indivisible GGF hosts this event in partnership with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). Anyone is welcome to attend. Signs and flags are encouraged.

Minot

May 1

City Hall

10 3rd Ave SW

6-7 p.m.

This event meets ADA standards and will be accessible for most participants.


Jamestown

May 1

St. Johns Lutheran Church

424 1st Ave. S.

5:15-6:15 p.m.

Signs, flags and banners are welcome. The ground is mostly flat and a wheelchair ramp is available.

East Grand Forks

May 3

Demers Ave.

3-4:30 p.m.

Bismarck

May 3

12-3 p.m.

This event meets ADA standards. Participants may bring non-perishable food items to benefit community members.
