Quad Ale Beer Review
Avery – The Reverend (ABV 10% IBU 24, Colorado) “The holy trinity of ales,” this Belgian-style quad ale has a dark caramel color with an off white foamy head. It makes this beer as beautiful to look at as it is to taste. With minimal hints of dark cherry and molasses, this beer boasts maximum flavor with a medium body. “Created by God, Feared by Satan, Loved by all.”
New Belgium – Cascara Quad (ABV 10% IBU 22, Colorado) Spiced with the fruits of the coffee bean (cascara), this deep maroon-colored beer is draped in an abundant thick white head, giving off aromas of cherries and fig. An immediate burst of cherry takes over your taste buds followed by subtle spice and gives off a prickly mouth feel. This medium-bodied beer will definitely keep you warm this winter.
Boulevard – The Sixth Glass (ABV 10.5% IBU 22, Missouri) An impressive frothy tan head rests upon this deep burgundy libation. With hidden sweetness and obvious essences of dark fruits, spice and very subtle pipe tobacco, this beer tastes as great as it smells and will have you coming back for a sixth glass.
North Coast – Brother Thelonious (ABV 9.4% IBU 32, California) This deep dark Belgian-style abbey ale is heavy in body and flavor. Decent carbonation, pleasant mouth feel and subtle lingering lead to minimal raisin and fig flavors. If you need more of a reason to drink this beer, for each bottle purchased, a donation is made to the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz in support of Jazz education.
Brasserie de Rochefort – Trappistes Rochefort 10 – (ABV 11.3% IBU 27, Belgium) With numerous awards, the thick brown colored body releases a beautiful head that rises to the sky. This beer has traces of spice, oak and dark fruit that will keep you interested from start to finish. If you are seeking a beer to throw you taste buds into a shamble this is the beer for you.
