Are you Selling Your Stuff?

July 19th, 2017

Some people say that the current selling market on line favors the buyer. Maybe... But you can still do well if you spend a little extra time with your listings. I am talking about listing items for sale on Ebay and Etsy.

I wanted to give you some tips for presenting your items and taking pictures. I sell mostly smaller items on Ebay, jewelry, coins, glassware, etc. There are some small items that you can take pictures of with a cheap cell phone camera. I do not recommend this. If you…

A look at Safe Spaces in college

July 19th, 2017

Over the years I’ve seen a number of articles and individuals condemning Safe Spaces as the bane of intellectual rigor, the death throes of free speech, and a major contributor to political extremism. In these articles, Safe Spaces get defined as places where students are free from information they find emotionally distressing: a place where students can mingle with like-minded individuals and not be criticized or challenged in any way.

Given all of that information, it really only…

If the walls could talk

July 19th, 2017

Surrounded by a tumbleweed-ridden wood fence, the Schafer jail is a small structure in rural McKenzie County built of native fieldstone and concrete. It was built in 1910 and is one of very few structures that remain in the former county seat. Outside of the building is a weathered metal sign that notes that it served McKenzie county for 31 years and “it was from this jail that Charles Bannon, the confessed murderer of the six members of the Albert E. Haven…

Drones in the North Dakota sky

July 12th, 2017

In early June, some 10 miles south of Grand Forks, North Dakota, the air resounded with a high-pitched buzz. Several drones glided above the sprouting fields, each charting its own mission. One hovered along a power line, vetting its integrity. Another carried out the same task, but so high in the cloudless sky it was invisible from the ground. Yet another traced an adjacent farm tract, collecting agricultural data. A fourth drone dashed through the routes of the rest, harrying them to…

Have you heard of PDF files?

July 12th, 2017

They are pretty cool! I am sure you have friends or colleagues who don’t use Windows as their operating system. Trying to open files that have been created on another operating system used by your friend can be a huge hassle. PDF files make this possible.

PDF stands for Portable Document Format. This means that the file can be moved easily from computer to computer and operating system to operating system. They are compact files and can be viewed on just about any platform –…

JDRA to host annual drag race at Jamestown Regional Airport

“At one time we had 8 airports hosting drag races. After 9/11 those races started to get banned. We are the last airport in the state to keep going with all the requirements the FAA has for us,” says Brian Kamlitz Vice President of the Jamestown Drag Racing Association. “Without the support of the city, airport, sponsors and racers, we probably wouldn’t be as big as we are.”

This year the JDRA will celebrate its 15th…

Red River Market is here again

July 12th, 2017

A variety of freshly produced food is coming back to Fargo. It is not just food but locally produced food. The Red River Market annually gathers up vendors and encourages them to offer our community members the experience of our local food and food products.

The Red River Market was founded in 2015 by a group of five volunteers who felt that a farmers’ market and community gathering place was missing in our area. For the first season, the Red River Market had about a dozen vendors, but…

Chelsea Manning and serving time for transgender people

June 28th, 2017

Whether Chelsea Manning likes it or not, she’s becoming an icon with the same mythic status as Laverne Cox or Caitlyn Jenner.

To be honest, I didn’t know much about Manning and I never formed much of an opinion about her over the last seven years, until her gender identity became public and I started seeing that label overshadow the entirety of her story.

I saw a big part of the trans community bemoan the news and fear that all trans people would be seen as traitors -- and attempt…
