Welcoming Week returns for its second year with 25 free community events in nine days. There’s a wide variety of programing scheduled, from community meals, sporting events and family-friendly entertainment to book talks, speakers and business and volunteer networking sessions. The celebration, held September 17-25, is part of National Welcoming Week, a nationwide movement designed to introduce new Americans to their U.S.-born neighbors.
“The overall goal…

I sure do. I used several of their volumes to flatten out things like my wrinkled 8th grade book report...I got a "C" on it anyway. I didn't mean to take you back to the dark ages -- the Encyclopedia Britannica is still a reference on the internet.
The other encyclopedia on the internet is Wikipedia. It is built on a wiki platform which means that anyone can edit it at any time.
Since this is back-to-school week, I thought I would give you a little heads up…

Sure, I went to the University of Northern Iowa and not North Dakota State University (and no, I’m not invested in the athletic feud between the two schools unless I’m trying to rile someone up), but I imagine that many elements of the college experience are universal.
I don’t claim to be any more qualified for this than, say, Dr. Phil or Lucy at her five-cent psychiatric help stand, but in no particular order, here’s my advice for getting the best out of your college…

The business computer world has this problem called Ransomware. Hackers want to extort money from businesses by a denial-of-access attack that prevents computer users from accessing their own files. The files are encrypted and the bad guys have the password to un-encrypt them. These Hackers are generally after businesses that will pay to get their files and records back.
So how are the bad guys getting into the company’s network in the first place?…

Online degrees have given new opportunities and new meaning to higher education while steadily growing in popularity this last decade. One out of seven college students are enrolled in full-time online programs, and that number is expected to increase. The digital degree trend has set the stage for a whole new college experience.
Attending college from a living room can seem like a hacker’s way of getting educated, but the numbers indicate something very…

I’d like to welcome everyone to a new school year! I’m sure every student out there has been blasted with more stimulus and information than any human can rightly handle, but if you’re under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, let me answer some common questions about the Fargo–Moorhead area!
What are some safe places to have fun in town for LGBTQ+ individuals?
The Pride Center and the college campuses all put on events year-round that are safe and inclusive…

We often take for granted how much potential our smartphones possess. It’s easy to forget that our pocket-sized bricks of plastic and circuitry surpass much of the computer technology of the past. Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku has said that the power of a smartphone today outmatches that of computers used by NASA during the first lunar launch. That was in 1969, almost fifty years ago, but it’s still a pretty big leap. The devices we use to browse…

You’re in college now -- but how do you get around? Buses, bikes, taxis, and bicycles are all ways to move around in town without having to drive a car. Whether it be getting to work, school, shopping, entertainment, or getting home safely after downtown fun, it’s important to know your options.
MATBUS
There is a no-cost transportation option for most area college students for the city bus service MATBUS. NDSU, MSUM, MState, Concordia, and NDSCS pay a fee to MATBUS that allows…

Fargo-Moorhead residents often flock to in Minnesota for weekend getaways to lake cabins, the North Shore of Lake Superior nestled in the Duluth area, or to Minneapolis St. Paul. Meanwhile the glistening gems of North Dakota often remain hidden. I desired to explore a quiet, yet affordable outdoor adventure in my home state.
Admittedly, I was skeptical about ND parks and tourist attractions after leaving Portland, which was part of the…

Some new tech from http://www.extremetech.com. Not all new tech will reach the street or your computer room but this one evidently has:
New Audis will tell you when the next traffic light will turn green. Audi’s new Traffic Light Information gives drivers a countdown until the light turns green. It lets you maximize the 15 to 120 seconds while you’re stopped. The car gets an accurate signal via its telematics module and displays the time-to-green in the…
By Josette Ciceronunapologeticallyanxiousme@gmail.com What does it mean to truly live in a community —or should I say, among community? It’s a question I have been wrestling with since I moved to Fargo-Moorhead in February 2022.…
