Press release

The Germans from Russia Heritage Collection (GRHC), NDSU Libraries, has partnered with Upland Exhibits of Newton, Kansas, to design, fabricate and install a permanent exhibit showcasing the history, culture and legacy of Germans from Russia. Early renderings are now available, offering the public a first look at the vision for this major cultural project.

Upland Exhibits specializes in museum-quality exhibits and was chosen for its expertise in captivating storytelling, innovative exhibit solutions and creative functional design. The exhibit is set to include immersive design, historical photographs, artifacts and unique interactive experiences that utilize audio and video elements from the collection. The exhibit will also feature hands-on opportunities for students to curate and design future exhibits and produce short video documentaries, expanding and enriching the experience for years to come.

“This is an exciting moment for the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection,” said Jeremy Kopp, GRHC interim director. “These renderings give us a glimpse into a space that will engage, educate and connect visitors to this deeply meaningful story. We are thrilled to partner with Upland Exhibits to bring this vision to life.”

Joel Gaeddert, founder and CEO, Upland Exhibits adds, “Many members of our team have a personal connection to the Germans from Russia story, including my own family, who were German Mennonites living in Russia before emigrating to the United States in 1874. Our shared heritage reflects the deep respect and enthusiasm we bring to this important work. We are eager to help tell this story in the most interesting, engaging and enduring way possible.”

This collaborative effort between the GRHC and Upland Exhibits ensures both historical accuracy and meaningful representation of the Germans from Russia story. Planning and development will continue into early 2026 and the exhibit is scheduled to open by Summer 2026 at the NDSU Main Library.

The GRHC is a globally recognized repository dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history and culture of Germans from Russia in North Dakota and the Northern Plains. For more information about the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection and the upcoming exhibit, visit ndsu.edu/grhc.
