Fargo Moorhead lend us your lobes…

Editorial | March 30th, 2016

It’s about that time when we ask our readers to call the shots. The Best of the Best is coming around the corner and we at the High Plains Readers want you to tell us the best bands, the top artists, the best eats, drinks, and everything in between.

On another note-- what are we missing? What would you the readers like to see in the Best of the Best? Are there music categories that we are missing? Are there sub genres of art, craft, and theater that are non-existent? Should we involve more social media, blogs, or websites?

We are dying to know.

As you may know your editor has been steering this ship for about six months now. Content-wise, how are we doing? Is there any content that you would like to see more of--or see less of?

I left Fargo disgusted and wanted to wash my hands of it, for reasons that had nothing to do with our fair city. Upon coming back I realized there is a lot more going on than I thought--and I knew there was a lot going on. There are new bands, theater productions and new artists doing phenomenal things in this town. Independent craft shows, pop up art shows, and intimate venues that are more than willing to showcase live music acts and a scene that is willing to cultivate it. A man much wiser than me once said, “true grit is hard to find”, and I do believe dear readers, Fargo has some grit.

Every paper we put together we can’t help but comment on how fortunate we are to be involved in such a vibrant and active community. We are also fortunate to have such a wonderful team of volunteers and advertisers.

As far as new businesses go, buildings seem to be going up and coming down on a near monthly basis. It’s hard to keep up, but then again we are professionals in our field...we do what we can.

We have an amazing amount of restaurants in the area, with a plethora of talented chefs and mixologists. We strive to give you the updates on not only the up and coming food and drink establishments in the area but we also like to highlight trends in the industries. Sampling drinks for our annual cocktail showdown was not only delicious--but eye opening.

We “ooh” and “aah” at inaccessible fare showcased on television networks leaving viewers couch-bound and salivating. There are people in the FM area that are fully capable of creating the same chef magic but making it accessible and enjoyable.

Along with our arts and culture features, we also include news and opinion features. Please send us your thoughts and opinions and we’ll give you a soapbox to stand on as long as you provide your name and town.

Send us your events, we can’t grant coverage for everything but we will be sure to add it to our calendar. We try our best to dip our fingers into many pots, but there are a few pots that have gone unintentionally unnoticed, and for this we apologize.

We beg you to please throw us a bone.

Are you a writer or writer-curious? We are always on the lookout for writers and interns to join the HPR family. We would like to have more food writers, theater writers, art writers, and those with a nose for news.

Not only does each individual writer provide a unique perspective, it also ensures that we bring you the interesting weekly content that you have grown to love. It also serves as a positive resume point for the writer involved. There aren’t too many things more rewarding than seeing your name in print.
