Letters to the Editor | March 8th, 2025
To the editor:
When I spoke out against the resolution that seeks to have the Supreme Court overturn marriage equality last week, I was not prepared for the subsequent outpouring of love and support. What started as a difficult moment has become a powerful reminder of the amazing community we have.
The first half of this legislative session has brought forward several troubling bills — ones we wish we could overturn. The attack on marriage equality is just one example. We’ve also seen efforts to ban books in schools and restrictions on bathroom access — all part of a broader culture war waged at the expense of real people’s rights.
Unfortunately, many in our legislature have shifted their focus away from policies that genuinely improve North Dakota and instead push divisive social agendas. The only way to stop this is through action. When harmful legislation makes headlines, speak out — your voices matter and can make a real impact.
There are many ways to get involved. Testifying at the Capitol, peacefully contacting your representatives, and staying engaged in the legislative process are all meaningful ways to influence the decisions being made. Most importantly, remember to vote. The 2026 elections will be crucial in determining the future of our state.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out with messages of support throughout this session. The conversations we’ve sparked — especially on social media — are just the beginning. I am grateful to be part of a community that stands up for what’s right, and I look forward to continuing this fight together.
