With autumn in full swing and apples ripe for the picking it only makes sense to share your favorite apple recipes. Grandma's Swedish Apple Cake has been a crowd pleaser from girl scout soirees to post office Christmas parties, and it is simple enough that almost anyone can make it.
I'm not sure where grandma got the recipe but it has always been written in the back of her trusty, old German cookbook and has been translated from German to English and from metric to standard.
Grandma's Swedish Apple Cake:
1 stick softened Margarine or Butter
1 cup of sugar (or more)
4 eggs
Beat well on low heat
Add 1 3/4 cups flour
1 1/2 tbsp baking powder
2/3 cup milk
Beat well on low heat
Put mixture in a greased bundt form
Preheat the oven to 350
Peel and thinly slice3-4 apples (Grandma prefers Golden Delicious)
Arrange the apples into a round pattern on top of the dough mixture
Sprinkle a combination of sugar and cinnamon on top before you put the cake in the oven
Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes -- use a toothpick to test
Once it has cooled, sprinkle powdered sugar on top
