KNDS hosts Twin Peaks

Music | April 16th, 2015

The annual KNDS Block Party is bringing up-and-coming hit rock band Twin Peaks to The New Direction on April 25. Supporting the Chicago garage punk rock band is Minneapolis artist Suzie and local rockers Panda Bandit.

The past block parties have included four or more bands but, according to KNDS general manager Cydney Berlinger, this year they took a different direction and focused on one main band to make it more like a typical concert. The change happened because the alternative station wanted to pull its resources together in order to bring a bigger act to Fargo.

“I’m especially excited about the lineup this year,” Berlinger said. “Twin Peaks is getting a lot of buzz and they’re coming to Fargo before they make it big. It should be a good year.”

The young rockers have no connection to the television show “Twin Peaks” but their sound is similar to ‘90s grunge and resemble a Replacements-esque feel.

According to guitarist Clay Frankel, the band listens to and are inspired by all different types of music and they enjoy playing their rock sound in small, intimate basement shows and larger festivals shows.

Much like many bands hitting the road for the first time, they played their fair amount of house shows. Just after graduating high school the band set out on a small tour and played in Fargo but didn’t have the best experience.

“It was horrible because no one came to the show,” Frankel said laughing as he is driving the rest of the band to their next show. “The opener was an old man wearing a devil mask, who played music off of what looked like a gameboy for an hour.”

According to Berlinger, a number of tickets have been sold and they are expecting a crowd at the all-ages venue.

“This year we’re lucky to have The New Direction. It should be a really great show and they’ve been super accommodating,” Berlinger said. “I feel like it’s the right venue for Twin Peaks too. It will be a really good experience and have a really good vibe.”
