Unbrewed Craft Fest

By Brittney Goodman

On Saturday, Oct. 3, from 1-8 p.m., Unglued Market comes to the Fargo Brewing Company for a free celebration of local handmade modern crafts, live music and craft beer.

During Unbrewed Craft Fest, 20 local makers will sell their handmade wares. Live polka music will happen in mid-afternoon, Oktoberfest games will be played and Oktoberfest beer will be on tap. Unglued will also be sponsoring the opportunity to make a glass-etched beer mug that participants can take with them. The whole brewery will be in action that day with makers lining up their booths along the kegs, canning lines and more.

Aaron Duma, director of merchandise and special events for the Fargo Brewing Company, feels that “bringing craft beer and crafters under one roof just makes a lot of sense and makes for a lot of fun.” The Fargo Brewing Company hopes to “turn some crafters on to our craft beer and hopefully turn some of our craft beer enthusiasts on to some awesome handmade, local crafts.” Fargo Brewing Company brews a variety of beers including stouts, porters, pale ales and lagers. Duma’s advice to those coming to the fest is that “drinking beer should be fun, so have fun with it!”

One of the 20 makers participating is Nevada Hardy, of the Misfit Alchemist, selling her line of all-natural, skin-safe bath and body products, including bath bombs, soaps, body lotions and massage bars.

Hardy is also working on some macabre home décor items. Hardy’s products are “all a little more on the dark side. I'm like a mad scientist in my lab taking normal things and putting a creepy twist on them. All of my creations are an expression of me and my personality. I have things that are shaped like brains, skulls and coffins. All are things that are usually dark and creepy, but I put my spin on them and make them fun and appealing to all types of people.”

She is eager to participate in Unbrewed: “I am excited to be at an event with so many other talented crafters and see everyone else's amazing creations. And the beers … I'm also excited about all the beers.”

Josh and Ashley Evenson will also be selling wares from their company, Dakotah Beard Oil, at Unbrewed Craft Fest. The husband and wife own and operate their own business, which creates beard oil, beard balm and hair pomade with all-natural, sustainably sourced ingredients. Josh Evenson says that their products are unique because “everything is made from scratch, in small batches -- usually per order, in our home.” He adds that everything is handmade, “from mixing ingredients, to cutting and applying every single label by hand, with care and precision.” They also practice a “zero waste policy,” recycling and reusing as much as possible. The couple makes the products where they live in Grand Forks.

So if you are a fan of handmade beer or crafts, the Fargo Brewing Company is the place to be Oct. 3.
