Last year’s Handmade Home Tour was such a success that Ashley Morken, proprietor of Unglued Market, decided to do it again. Unglued Market, focusing on “modern handmade crafts,” started out as a craft fest five years ago and due to popular demand she has had a storefront for three years, located at 408 Broadway, Fargo. It features work by local artists and crafters, and the shop serves as a hub for those interested in modern crafting, and also includes social and learning events.

The purpose of the Handmade Home Tour is to feature homes that use handmade, vintage and do-it-yourself décor and to “inspire people to make their homes creative and to tell their own stories,” according to Ashley Morken. The décor ideas used in these homes are achievable and often very affordable, repurposing existing furniture and other items. Morken hopes they motivate tour participants: “They can create their home to be the one they want.” The Handmade Home Tour fits well within Unglued’s mission to “Buy creative. Get inspired.”

For the 2015 tour, the starting point is at the Red River Market at 210 Broadway. Half of the attendees will bicycle the route and the other half will travel by car (carpooling is encouraged), each visiting the same eight homes. Six of the homes are houses, and two are apartments. The homeowner will be the guide at each home, and refreshments will be served at each abode. At the end of the tour is food and drinks at the Prairie Den, 122 Broadway, with participants having the option of creating a “himmeli” wall décor led by Lexie Rundquist of Aerow. Himmeli is a hanging wall decoration popular in Sweden and Finland.

To keep the event intimate and manageable, it is limited to only 50 people. If you cannot attend, watch on social media and Unglued’s website for an album of tour photos to help inspire your creativity.
