Fargo VFW Post 762 & Auxiliary present: Derby for the Vets ~ Adult Pinewood. Popularity continues to grow in the Fargo metro community, and now in its seventh year it has become a staple and downtown’s annual release from the long winter. The unofficial start to summer racing season needs a whole week to launch the full schedule of events.

Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney has issued a challenge to all mayors to try and defeat the 2018 Mayors Challenge Champ. Mahoney will also be the 2019 Grand Marshal of the event. The outspoken Mayor will certainly add color to the heavy competition from area mayors.

Derby Week lights up Sunday, February 10th at noon at the Fargo VFW. The V is hosting all things Derby with special Gray Duck Vodka drinks and Lagunitas brews well below market pricing. The Derby food will be warming the insides while the Daytona 500 Qualifying fills the background. Special Derby swag, drink drawings and prizes all afternoon.

Derby for the Vets - Happy Hour from 4-7 daily will roll out special prices and prizes all week.

Wednesday featuring Brittney Goodman’s Bang Your Brain Trivia with challenging race questions from the Derby’s Director Dan Jacobson.

Thursday - Friday Open Track Testing and media day with final team pre-party.

Friday-Saturday 9:30-2 live band is the Craig Schulte Band.

Race Day Saturday event lights off at noon with opening ceremonies, Post Color Guard, Tanya Weets live anthem, Grand Marshal Mahoney and the video monitors showing the Blue Angels flyover with the Mayor leading the count down to racing.

Full speed ahead for the next couple hours of action as nearly 100 competitors feel the agony of defeat or sweet victory. Derby for the Vets is the premier championship class with the Mayor’s Challenge and fastest growing class Battle of the Brands where companies team build their logo cars showing their pride. New this year is the Commanders Cup, open to all past and present Military clubs commanders. Those guys want victory at any cost.

Watching the production produced by 334 Studios “Goose and Company” with multiple cameras following the action on all the TV’s on both levels of the V is great. The VFW Auxiliary is serving up Derby Brats from Meats by John & Wayne, with world famous Stew Peterson’s Chili. The community flips for the Derby Silent and Live auction items every year. Bison signed 2018-19 Football, plane rides, Mezzaluna and many of the area’s top businesses gift cards. Zorbaz gear, John Deere, BobCat, Kim Jore Derby prints, signed collectibles and Derby for the Vets 2019 framed posters.

To stay home would just be wrong as both floors of the VFW are a tizzy of excitement as we conclude winter and start the racing season. Oh, btw... Sunday Feb.17th is the Daytona 500, the Super Bowl of stock car racing... Also on the tvs at the friendly Downtown VFW.
