Notes about terror, tyranny, torture, freedom, laws, lies, and truth
When Vice President Mike Pence needed an answer to a question about the 2020 presidential election that might end American democracy or strengthen it, he did not call on a member of the Supreme Court or Chief Justice John Roberts. He called on a conservative Republican-appointed judge named Michael Luttig, an appeals court judge with fifteen years of experience, who was relatively unknown in the country, but he was one most trusted to apply the law correctly in our democracy. He quickly answered Pence’s question.
After many interviews, he was asked to write a column about the Constitution and its contents for wide distribution in the Divided States of America. Every person over twelve in the country should read his column, “The Self-Evident Truths of Freedom-and of Tyranny: Twenty-Seven Truths About America, our Democracy and Rule of Law, and Our Rights, Freedom, and Liberties.”
In four sentences he describes our governmental experiment: “Today, the United States of America is the beacon of freedom in self-government to the world and the Constitution of the United States the envy of the world. The genius of the American experiment in self-governance is that “We the People,” not the government, possess all power and we govern ourselves by representational democracy. We entrust our power to our government to exercise on our behalf in the interests of the nation. To ensure that our government faithfully exercises the power we entrust it with, we the American people ordained and established government by law, not by kings.”
In his column of several pages, he discusses monarchies and democracies in 27 special points. I’m going to list a few that seem to be most relevant to what the Trump administration is trying to accomplish to bring fascism and White Christian power to our divided country. Call it Make America White Forever (MAWF).
Do these subjects describe what is happening today in America?
LBGTQUIA+ and transgender topics: “All persons are endowed with certain rights, liberties, and freedoms, that are unalienable and that are the bulwark against tyranny by the government.”
Immigration: “Government is instituted and its powers derived from the consent of we, the governed in order that government, in order that government will secure, protect, and pressure our rights, liberties, and freedoms. The government should respect that America is a nation of immigrants from foreign lands.”
Executive power and Immunity: “Every person’s rights, liberties, and freedoms—as well as the rights of the majority and minority—are best secured and safe guarded by separation of the respective powers of the Legislature, the Executive, and the Judiciary. By separation of the powers of each of the branches of government from the power of others, the powers of each of the three coequal branches of government are limited and checked and balanced by the power of others.”
Declarations of war: “Government should only wage war against foreign enemies only when authorized by the Congress of the United States in a Declaration of War.”
On use of military in-country: The government should respect the need for separation of military from civil authority and the need to limit military to military purpose and not to civil purpose.”
Speech: “Every person should have the right to speak freely and to associate freely with others without fear that the government will punish them for the exercise of their right to speak and associate freely.”
Equality: “Every person is equal under law, enjoys the same privileges and protections of law, and is subject to the same constraints and penalties of law.”
Presidential Immunity: “No person is above the law. The law applies equally to all persons elected or appointed to serve the American people in their government as it does to all other persons, and all elected or appointed representatives of the people are accountable under law for their offenses against the people as every other person is accountable for their offenses.”
In my 30 years of writing more than 1,600 columns utilizing three million words on many subjects, I have had to listen to speeches and interviews and read majority and minority opinions by thousands of judges at many levels. Some bloviate, some babble, some try to impress politicians and other judges with long ambiguous, confusing, lawyerly words to make an impression and advance to the next level.
Judge Luttig communicates well on radio and TV in news sessions and excels with his simple style and choice of words in written work. His column on what the Constitution means is the best, the most understandable I have ever read. Every American, whether citizen, immigrant, or undocumented waiting for shelter, asylum and citizenship should read his column. He covers another 19 subjects.
Why would South Dakota American Indians ban Governor Kristi Noem?
Robert Green Ingersoll wrote about the Fugitive Slave Law that could be transposed to the Trumpistan laws about the undocumented “slaves” in the Divided States of America: “It is hard to conceive of the utter demoralization, of the political blindness and immorality of the patriotic dishonesty of the cruelty and degradation of a people who supplemented the incomparable Declaration of Independence with the Fugitive Slave Law.” Please substitute the Trumpian Laws regarding the deportation of 22 million undocumented “Illegal Aliens” smothering whites in the Divided States of America.
Last night I heard a beekeeper say this about bees: “The more I know about bees the less I know about bees.” I had a short brain cramp, then I realized he was speaking the truth about any subject.
For years I have been wondering what makes Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem tick. The more I know about Kristi Noem the less I know about Kristi Noem. The former governor of South Dakota was nationally chastised for shooting and killing her hunting dog Cricket because she wouldn’t “behave.” Evidently, she treated South Dakota Native Americans like undocumented aliens because when she was governor of South Dakota they banned her from their reservations.
On a visit to Los Angeles when the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) forces (masked, in combat gear, and carrying weapons) rounded up undocumented men waiting for a day’s work at a Home Depot and hustled them off to detention — thus creating strong local protests watched by 4,000 California National Guard and 700 United States Marines ordered in by Trump to save Los Angeles — Kristi made the astounding statement: “I’m here to liberate Los Angeles!” Los Angeles County has a population of 10 million, including 900,000 “lazy and ignorant” undocumented people who are ineligible for food stamps and Medicaid. They staff hotels, resorts, hospitals, clinics, trying to escape the American Gestapo while working 12 hours a day on California tree, animal, vegetable and fruit farms.
Earlier, she had visited a new prison in El Salvador designed to house 40,000 prisoners until they died of old age. Her organization had flown detainees there against a ruling made by a federal judge. The purpose was to “disappear” them. Remember when the fascist dictator of Argentina “disappeared” more than 5,000 young protesters by tossing them out of helicopters over the Atlantic? Kristi made her presence known by prancing up and down a walkway before hundreds of male prisoners wearing a tight-fitting white T-shirt on her body and a huge $60,000 Rolex wristwatch on her left wrist. Meanwhile, the more I know…
What will Homeland Security and ICE do with $170 billion more bucks?
Will Kristi want to develop Guantanamo as a huge American prison for illegal aliens? The Trumpistan administration has already spent $40 million housing a few hundred there, wasting $100,000 a day on each one. It also costs $27,000 an hour just to fly them there. How much will we spend sending lawyers and judges there?
It was a beautiful harbor once, but now it is a place for torture, terror, and splitting families. I spent a couple of days there in 1956 courtesy of the US Marine Corps when assigned to Cuba. George W. Bush decided we should use it after 9/11 after his lawyer John Yoo had determined that torture started only when the victim was near death because of the torture. These were Global War on Terror days. If we needed really tough torture, we sent “detainees” to so-called “black sites” around the world.
Because Democrats have been trying to close the place for 20 years, the Republicans and Trumplicans have succeeded in keeping it open for nefarious schemes for 20 years. Only 15 “Global” prisoners are left at Gitmo so each of them is costing us millions a day to guard them now. But, hell, it’s only money.
The Big Beautiful Bill (BBB) just passed by Trumplicans, that I call Billionaires Breed Bastards (BBB), provides $170 billion to Make America White Forever (MAWF). ICE will get $75 billion over the next four years, more than the combined budgets of the FBI, DEA, and Bureau of Prisons (It happens to be more than the entire defense budget of Italy!) ICE can add 10,000 masked, unidentifiable, tactically dressed and armed agents to stuff illegals into unmarked cars, vans and buses. Even Hitler’s Brownshirts and Waffen SS troops didn’t look like mass murderers looking for elementary, middle, high schools and courthouses to shoot up or “smash and grab” gangs robbing jewelry stores in shopping malls.
With some of this money ICE can double its capacity to disappear 116,000 deportees waiting to go to Sudan, Syria, El Salvadore, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and other pleasure spots. Or maybe we can develop the entire Everglades into a gulag of a dozen Alligator Alcatrazes and make them into concentration work camps.
Recent visiting Democratic representatives said the conditions were “horrifying” for the “illegals:” air conditioning insufficient, humidity high, not enough toilets and bathrooms, the food absolutely terrible, tents and wire fences topped with razor wire, swamps infested with mosquitoes, alligators and pythons, and the Atlantic weather experts are predicting a total of 19 hurricanes for the season, with the possibility of at least four E5 hurricanes hitting Florida. President Trump, Governor DeSantis and Secretary Noem state that a number of Alligator Alcatrazes would complete the plans of Stephen Miller to Make America White Forever. For these four it seems the more they know about cruelty, the more they want to use cruelty to make many millions of black and brown folks disappear in the Everglades and other swamps around the world.
French biologist and philosopher Jean Rostand has the best statement about the immigration policy of Miller, Noem, DeSantis and Donald Trump: “Stupidity, outrage, vanity, inequity, cruelty, bad faith, falsehood — we fail to see the whole array when it is facing in the same direction as we.”
This explains why the Trump Administration is facing 400 lawsuits over policies and laws.
