Five Years of the Fargo Beer Festival

Beer Snob | September 24th, 2015

By Krissy Ness

I am sure all of you have heard about the 5th Annual Fargo Beer Festival happening this Saturday, Sept. 26. Just in case you haven’t, the event will be held at the Fargo Civic Center from 4-7 p.m., and tickets are $35 at the door or $25 in advance. You can purchase tickets at Fargo Civic Box Office, and all Empire, Crown and Royal liquor stores.

This event has been a great platform for the craft beer scene by providing a fun and safe environment to experience new beer, old beer or rare beer and geek out with other enthusiasts. It is a great way to learn about your favorite brewery or find a new beer you have never heard of. My favorite parts of these events have always been finding people who want to talk about the taste, aroma and body of beer and save the politics of beer for another time. Events like this provide education and awareness about the process of making beer, from the actual brewing process to the distribution and community involvement. Don’t be afraid to ask questions -- there will be people there to guide you to a taste that best suits you. And if you are feeling really dangerous, branch out and try something new and exciting -- it’s worth it, I promise.

FBF will be featuring beer from all over the country and some local favorites as well. Don’t have time to grab dinner before the event? Don’t worry! There will be food at the event.

This year Anheuser-Busch will be providing festival goers with the Safe Ride Home option. With support from VIP Club Ride, a number of town cars, limos and buses will be waiting to give patrons a ride home, although it is first come, first serve, so plan accordingly.

There will be a number of events going on after the FBF, including a special treat for the people of Fargo-Moorhead. Head over to JL Beers in Moorhead for a Drekker Brewing Co., AFTERmath party. JL Beers serves many varieties of beer from all over the country, and in some cases, the world. It is exciting to see another local beer on tap in Moorhead, joining Fargo Brewing Company and Junkyard.

This party will feature Drekker Brewing Company’s recent expansion into Minnesota, which is the home state of the four owners. Their beer will be taking over the tap lines with some special treats: The Pillager Porter, Burn the Boats IPA, The RYEsistance Rye Saison and so much more. But not only that, they are including the Hausterhosen Festbier, a special Techno Viking infusion, and the Broken Rudder, infused with 20 Below coffee pin.
