Pints & Pumps celebrated beer in style

Beer Snob | May 13th, 2015

By Krissy Ness

Fargo’s first ever beer-fueled fashion show took place last Monday, May 4. Pints & Pumps was held at Drekker Brewing Company and put together by Michelle Durenksy, a sibling of Darin Montplaisir, co-founder and head brewer of the brewery. It featured unique clothing, spring fashion and lingerie from local boutiques in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

I spoke with Michelle about the inspiration and idea behind Pints & Pumps, and in one sentence she summed it up: “It makes zero sense.” While it is common to go to an art event or a fashion show and find women in striking dresses, drinking cocktails, wine or champagne, Michelle wanted to bring craft beer into the mix and provide an environment that is not stuffy. And while there are now multiple up-and-coming breweries, she felt Drekker Brewing would be the perfect nonsensical location.

Michelle exclaimed, “I love the look -- drinking beer in a dress -- and to branch out on female expectation on beer.”

Blue Daisy/Blue Steel, Eloise, Crystal Corset Bra Boutique, Your Day by Nicole and Blurr are some of the boutiques that were featured in this fashion show. The designs were bold, bright and brilliant to floral, clean and neat. The clothing ranged from sports wear to lingerie to everything in between. All the hair and makeup was done by Durensky, Elle Hair and Cloud 9 Salon.

The event was a hit; women from all age groups and lifestyles were dressed to the nines supporting local businesses and enjoying fine hand-crafted beer by Drekker and appetizers made by Würst Bier Hall. However, in a sea of women, a few beards poked out, showing that even though this event was deemed for women, the men couldn’t keep away. And it was clear that the men stole the show as the women in the crowd hooted and hollered when they walked the runway.

During intermission, not only were there prizes and beer refills, Blue Belle’s Burlesque put on an amazing fan show.

Pints & Pumps was a great excuse to chase away the Monday blues and celebrate new beer and stylish clothing.
