Caregivers for school-aged children and teenagers are encouraged to bring them to back-to-school immunization clinics scheduled for every Tuesday in August. Fargo Cass Public Health (FCPH) and Family HealthCare will partner to offer four clinics on August 5, 12, 19 and 26. All events will be held at the FCPH building (located at 1240 25th Street South in Fargo) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The August 5 and August 26 events require an appointment. Parents and caregivers should call 701-241-1383 to schedule. Families can also set up an appointment for kids and teens to receive immunizations during regular hours at the FCPH clinic by calling the same number.

Family HealthCare (FHC) will also provide walk-in immunizations from their mobile unit on August 12 and 19 for additional convenience and flexibility. Families can fill out walk-in forms online in advance. Staff from both agencies will be present to assist families and answer questions.

Parents are encouraged to contact their insurance company before immunization appointments or walk-in events to verify coverage for immunizations. Find additional information at FargoCassPublicHealth.com/immunizations.

Fargo Cass Public Health reminds caregivers that kids, teens and young adults are typically required to have certain immunizations before starting school, as well as before entering daycare and college. Before kindergarten, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that children be immunized against chickenpox, hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTaP), polio and measles, mumps and rubella (MMR). Children entering 7th grade should receive vaccines to prevent bacterial meningitis, tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis. An additional dose of the meningitis vaccine is recommended before 11th grade.

“Staying on schedule with vaccinations is one of the best ways to protect your child — and others around them — from serious diseases like measles, meningitis and whooping cough,” says Cheryl Wavrin, immunization coordinator at FCPH.
