The name Mr. Mihuta may not be familiar, but for most of my life, I’ve known that name. There was a television show where Mr. Mihuta taught art projects, in various mediums, that I remember fondly. Back in 2008, I wondered what became of Mr. Mihuta, so I tried to find him. I eventually found a Dan Mihuta, now 95 years old, and contacted him after nearly ten years of searching. Mihuta, or Dan to me, was kind enough to speak to me recently from…

“Our whole idea was to make sure that everyone had some kind of exposure to the arts, which in a small town in North Dakota, you don’t always get that, you have to go to Grand Forks or Fargo, where the big cities are. We just went with the idea that people in a small community -- Nelson County -- we consider that a community, really does have an interest just as much as anybody else does. To make it available to them without having to travel is pretty much a big key to that whole…

Tucked in the back of Roberts Street Studio, if you follow the “yellow brick road” (a funny story, if you get the chance to ask her), you are likely to find local artist Mackenzie Kouba working on her next masterpiece.
Born and raised in the Fargo-Moorhead area, Kouba is no stranger to the art scene. She began her arts degree at UND, then continued her studies at NDSU where she graduated with her BFA in the spring of 2011. She has been a dedicated…

Born in Minnesota and having lived in Seattle for most of his life, Tarjei Nossum is somewhat new to the Fargo art scene, but that hasn’t stopped him from taking advantage of all the opportunities the art community provides for local artists.
“I love Fargo because you can literally talk to anybody you want to talk to,” Nossum said. “There’s a lot of creative people here, and that’s what drew me to this place.”
Nossum has made a name for…

In the last century, comic books have gone from being a fringe medium of entertainment to a ubiquitous part of American pop culture and artistic expression. People from around the country (and around the world) immediately recognize images like Superman’s ‘S’ shield or Batman’s bat logo. Superhero films crowd the theatre marquees. Even as DC and Marvel turned their superhero franchises into blockbusters, smaller presses latched onto comics as a breathtaking and original…

“When all of these are packed up, it’s like having dysfunctional adolescents that sting and threaten to self destruct when you decide to attack them," Fergus Falls-based artist Kirk Williams said. "It’s awful. It’s hard to do but we’re getting it done,”
Williams unveiled a table full of fragile, meticulously packed assemblages peeking out from their respective boxes waiting to be dropped off at the Kaddatz Gallery for his upcoming exhibition. As he speaks, I imagine the…

By Josette Ciceronunapologeticallyanxiousme@gmail.com What does it mean to truly live in a community —or should I say, among community? It’s a question I have been wrestling with since I moved to Fargo-Moorhead in February 2022.…
