FARGO – The introduction to Winona LaDuke’s Hemp and Heritage Farm describes how the world stands at the intersection between two paths.

“One path is well worn, scorched and leads to our destruction. The other path is new, green and leads to mino-bimaadiziwin (the good life).”

LaDuke, a lifelong environmental activist, founder of Honor the Earth, and two-time Vice Presidential pick for the Green Party, is also a writer, and she’s speaking about her book “The Winona LaDuke…

Hornung - Gone up to see the ghost - cyanotype by Sabrina Hornung

Cyanotype by Sabrina Hornung

According to the Valley City Times Record, during the fall of 1903 a barn outside of Litchville became a hot topic of conversation and was reputed to be haunted. During the previous winter Olaus Anderson, a local farmer who lived a few miles outside of Litchville succumbed to asphyxiation by coal gas. Coal gas was also known as “town gas” and contained high levels of Carbon Monoxide. Unfortunately natural gas wasn’t regulated in the US until around…

Two changes to Windows

October 3rd, 2018

Most of the time old folks like me need changes to keep us on our toes. I just wish they weren’t so severe that I get cramps in my legs and my vision gets all blurry.

Read the Book First

September 26th, 2018

by Nathan Arel

“You have to read the book first.” This phrase is a piece of folk wisdom everyone is familiar with. It’s generally accepted as true and I believe its origin is inherently logical. Many films are based on literature for the simple reason that literature is an older medium. From there, it makes sense that you cannot truly appreciate a retelling of a piece if you haven’t experienced that piece in its original form. Therefore, “You have to read…
