As I sat across from my wife at Himalayan Yak Tuesday evening, it dawned on me that time had slowed down. So often when we go out to eat, we are in a hurry. September is Hunger Action Month

Hunger is an issue among us, and with 1 in 9 people between Cass and Clay every year using food pantries to sustain themselves it is an issue that needs to be addressed. While we all think about starving children in third world countries and in disaster areas, we must also look at our neighbors, friends and those we pass on the streets and wonder, “are you hungry?”

Tucked away in the Moorhead Center Mall north sits a newly emerging cultural experience. A place for exploration of flavors and a wonderful environment for learning about spice, and deliciousness.

A young couple from Atlanta decided to give it a go in the FM area about six months ago. The previous tenants of this location didn’t find success, but I am optimistic that this establishment will survive and thrive in the newly emerging Moorhead.

Every year the Fargo Moorhead area celebrates its love of food with Restaurant week. Each restaurant involved prepares a special menu to showcase the best of what they have to offer. This year there are seventeen restaurants involved including The Hodo, Boiler Room, Luna, Twist, The Toasted Frog, and even Leela Thai and The Everest Tikka House. Once Andrew and Maddie Johnson left Fargo they moved to Andrew’s hometown.

“We worked at the restaurant in Lisbon for a couple of months,” Maddie said. “We’re not about opening stuff in bags and pulling stuff from freezers.”
